ABHR may not be as effective against spore forming bacteria such as C.difficile, washing with soap and water is recommended when caring for patients diagnosed with this organism or suspected of having disease caused by it.
Are Alcohol Based Hand Rubs effective against C. Difficile?

Used for patients known or suspected to have communicable illnesses easily transmitted by direct patient contact or by contact with items in the patient’s environment.
Examples of when to use Contact Isolation include: MRSA, VRE, C. difficile, Norovirus, scabies or lice. PPE: Gowns and gloves are worn by ALL who enter. PPE is removed before exiting room and placed in trash. WASH YOUR HANDS!
