Hard Maple
this wood is easy for both hand & machine work, but has a tendency to burn while being machined with high speed cutters such as routers. It has a nearly white or off white cream colour, and sometimes gives off a reddish or golden hue. it has curly or quilted grain patterns.

Douglas fir
This tree is one of the hardest softwoods with a 620lb rating on the Jenka scale. Its decay resistance is good unless insects have attacked it. Movement is minimal once dry. Its known to dull blades but is very workable, including with glues and stains. Dark growth rings define its light brown colour, which is paired with yellow and red tones. flatsawn boards contain figures, curls and waves. This is a Coniferous tree.
