PROFILE The first king of Israel. In the beginning, Saul was humble and modest. Later, though, he became arrogant, and Jehovah re- jected him as king. Saul hunted for David, who had become a mighty warrior, and tried to kill him. But Jehovah protected David, and Saul later died during a battle with the Philistines. —1 Samuel 31:1-4.

What isPROFILE The mother of the prophet Samuel. In prayer, Hannah promised Jehovah that if she had a son, she would bring him to serve at the tabernacle. After Samuel was born, Hannah kept her promise and thanked Jehovah in a beautiful prayer.—1 Samuel 2:1-10.

What isPROFILE During a famine that affected Bethlehem, Naomi moved with her family to Moab. After Naomi’s husband and two sons died, she returned with her daughter-in-law Ruth to Bethlehem. Ruth gathered food for Naomi, and Naomi helped Ruth to settle there and marry.—Ruth 2:17, 18; 3:1-4.
