Bob has Sickle Cell Anemia which is a recessive disorder. In order to cure his disease would Bob need to disable the disease causing gene or insert a new gene.
Bob would need to insert a new gene. Since his condition is recessive, by inserting a new gene which is dominant, his sickle cell traits would not show, although he would become a carrier of sickle cell anemia.
