ROOMMATE Getting 'Round Necessities Costly Costs COVID and Our Worries

Will you have a roommate?Yes! I'm too afraid to live alone for the first few months adjusting.
Will you have a roommate?

Chana has a car, as well as I, she doesn't want to go out alone until we are comfortable with the city
What is your mode of transportation?
100
Nope, lovely Chana is here to the rescue.
Do you need a car?

Apartments we are looking for, in safe areas, walking distance from groceries, and close to campus are from 2,000 to 3,000 for 2 bedrooms (few already furnished). We are aiming for 2,500 so it goes to 1,250 each.
What is the price of the apartment?

Only 30% of those that skip a semester are likely to finish their degree. I don't feel comfortable with skipping a semester nor do I want to. I'm enjoying my education right now and would rather die than take a semester off. You're going to have to pay no matter if a gap is taken or not. Tuition is only increasing, plus I won't be nagging, annoying, and I will be out of your hair.
What's a benefit of you going now and not staying home and missing a semester?

Chana Ellenberger
What is her name?
200
Where do I need to go? Groceries can be delivered, UBER and LYFT are reliable transport options, as well as possible other LMU student neighbors in chosen living situation.
What if her car isn't available?
200
Gold's, apartment gyms, or others in the area are a short, or no distance from apartments of choice. COVID will probably limit this, but with bands I'll make due for him workouts.
What about a gym?
200
I thought so. Expected housing ON Loyola is 10,000 for the semester, which wouldn't even be a full one for on campus stay. Renting an apartment would cost... at max 8,000. Sounds nice saving a pretty penny and not having to share a bathroom again.
What is wrong with you 1,250-1,500 is a lot?
200
I do not want to be home. I want to be in Cali with my new friends and make a new life. COVID won't change much about our daily life. Grocery stores will still be open, all my classes are online, and we weren't going to go out in public danger until it is safer, or have the vaccine anyways.
Why do you want to go so far during COVID? You don't get to experience LA with COVID.
300
LMU's roommate matching
How did you meet?
300
Different apartments have different distance, but none of 10 minute walk, plus I got Chana and her car!
How close is your grocery store, gym, other necessities?
300
Few options come pre furniture, of not IKEA or up-thrifted are options.
What about furniture?
300
We can find cheap chairs and such at IKEA or thrift, as well as few options for apartments come pre-furnished. Nice!
Furniture will be expensive?

Everyone I've talked to for advice says to go while I can. Jess's sister lives their, Darren (of course), Chana's family is open to help me out, and a few buddies from PSUB like in the area.
What if you're wrong and you don't like it there? Who is there for you?
400
Chana is a class of 2022 marketing major transferring from San Fran to experience the LA life and get a better education, studying marketing and having similar interests as I, we are a perfect pair to explore LA together. Her family is from LA so we have connection incase of emergencies
Who is she?
400
Yes! Though I told her she could just drive me somewhere as I wouldn't be comfortable taking her car from her.
Is Chana okay with you taking her car places?
400
Fat Sally's in Ashtabula has high quality dishes (including China) that just need washed up and shipped. Cheaper than targets "college choices" and high quality.
Dishes? Towels? Sheets?

Moving there now lets me get to know the area off campus, living on campus we will be quarantined to not leave. I get to adjust to LA and get make friends while doing so. Plus, as no longer a new student in the Fall I am allowed to apply to the suites, which is 7,000 a semester AND on campus.
What about going back to LMU next semester, why spend that?
400
We can both say we expected LA not to be the same when I'm there, but my classes were scheduled to be online NO MATTER where I go. I wasn't planning on partying and going out anyways, just being in the nicer weather and on a new adventure is good enough for me.
What if COVID gets worse, the news shows its bad?
500
Chana and I have been talking for a few weeks, I have stalked her Instagram, and she had to be verified as a student thru LMU to have been matched with. She would have been a possible roommate if we were on campus anyways.
What if she is a total crazy person?
500
No, at least not until I learn the roads better.
So you don't want to rent a car?
500
Chana's extended family lives in LA, she has friends and well as her boyfriend that goes to Pepperdine (un the street from us). As well as Darren.
What if you get in trouble?
500
Average cost per household is 375, but with just the two of us, it will rack lower.
What about the costs for your food?
500
To be able to live in LA this spring and start fresh with her new, close friend in this next chapter of life.
