Don't laugh. "I'd be nervous too. Take a deep breath. You can do this! I have a hard time reading in front of all these people too. I know it's hard to get in front of a big group"

Ask them about it, listen to what they have to say, don't always try and fix it, be empathetic, understand they are sad. Try and help make them feel better.
