Sure, the climate is changing - so what?
Stable agriculture depends on a stable climate
The change may be faster than humans, plants and animals can adapt to Animals and peoples on the north will lose their natural habitat and can go extinct With increased temperatures and carbon on the atmosphere coral reefs start dying, and they are where much life begins on the ocean Water wars between nations Grazing patterns in regions in Africa are changing according to climate change and conflict between different groups over land is arising |
What is "Identify and define the problem"?
What is water treated via filtration and disinfected to remove contaminants?
The first step of the engineering design process.
|
What is 95%?
This is the percentage of BC's electricity that is generated from renewable sources.
|
How could tiny humans possibly change the climate?
Over the span of decades with industrial machines much larger than tiny humans
|
What is natural flax fibers?
The material the Chalmers Solar team used instead of carbon fiber for their solar car.
|
What is hydro?
This is BC's largest source of electricity.
|
The climate is changing… then why can’t I see it around me?
“When the global temperature changes, the changes in climate are not expected to be uniform across the Earth. In particular, land areas change more quickly than oceans, and northern high latitudes change more quickly than the tropics, and the margins of biome regions change faster than do their cores”
|
What is water treated via filtration and disinfected to remove contaminants?
The benefit of nicely-engineered sewers for the environment (other than the smell).
|
What is five times as much?
Of jobs that can be created through renewable sources over fossil fuels. (hint: 2x, 4x or 5x?)
|
The climate is changing ... but it has always been changing… right?
The climate always changed: Yes and No. The climate on Earth varied until it became largely stable around 10,000 years ago, starting the Holocene. This stability coincided with the rise of agriculture and human settlements, the basis of today’s civilization, which naturally depends on a stable and predictable climate. Therefore our currently stable climate allowed for civilization as we know it today. Humans are changing natural balancing feedback loops built into the planet that keep it stable, like rainforests which trap carbon and ice caps that reflect solar energy to space. They do that by deforestation and greenhouse gas emissions.

What is Solar Iron Cart?
Is the solution for ironing clothes that a high school girl came up with to replace coal-based ironing in India?
|
What is 1400 houses?
Of houses that one wind turbine can power in a year? (hint: between 500 to 3000)
|
Which countries are most affected by climate change? (100 points for each of the 5 countries mentioned)
Japan
Philippines Germany Madagascar India |
What is UV rays hit tiles of building to convert smog to less harmful substances?
Is how smog-eating buildings use this type of light to reduce smog.
