---|---|---|---|
The weather conditions of a region in the longterm.
Define climate.
An underground body of freshwater encased in limestone/ porous rock. Aquifers are a unique geological phenomenon that provide a renewable source of drinking water. When we add use fertilizers and pesticides we should take care that they do not enter our aquifers.
Define aquifer and draw an explanation on the board. How could agriculture potentially harm our aquifers?
A corn field can be an ecosystem as it has living and non-living things that interact with one another.
Can a corn field be an ecosystem? Why or why not? (This is yes or no, do not explain both)
The study of ecology as it relates to agriculture. When used properly it has the potential to increase yields and reduce environmental impacts.
What is agroecology? How can it be beneficial for agriculture?
The state of the atmosphere at a place and time in regard to heat, dryness, sunshine, wind, rain, etc.
Define weather.
Excessive richness of nutrients in a lake or other body of water, frequently due to runoff from the land, which causes a dense growth of plant life and death of animal life from lack of oxygen. This can result from improper agricultural activities and consequentially harm important ecosystems.
Define eutrophication and draw an explanation on the board. How could agriculture potentially cause eutrophication?
A living thing. Chicken, duck, goat, cow, corn, etc.
Define biotic. Give three examples of a biotic factor in agriculture
Putting a species (plant or animal) back into a region where it formerly lived.
Define reintroduction.
Chance of rain, sunlight/ cloud intensity, wind
List and explain 2 things that are measured or recorded in weather.
A nonliving thing. Rock, water, soil, air, temperature, light, etc
Define abiotic. Give three examples of an abiotic factor.
Saving natural resources from being wasted.
Define conservation. What are some resources we should conserve in agriculture?
Average temperature, average precipitation, average light intensity, etc.
List and explain 2 things that are measured or recorded in climate.
A food web is a combination of food chains that show how organisms are organized in energy transfer. (draw a simple example on the board)
Define and describe a food web. (draw one)
Everywhere you can create or support an ecosystem! Agroecology is implemented around the world. In the video we watched we learned about agricultural ecosystems in Tanzania, Indonesia, Brazil, and the Netherlands.
Where can agroecology be used? (think of the video we watched)

Weather in the summer for Alaska could be warm enough to match the weather in the fall or winter of Florida. However, the long-term weather, or climate of Alaska is very different from the climate of Florida.
It is possible for SOME Alaskan weather data to be comparable to SOME Floridian weather data. However, the climate of Alaska is NOT like the climate of Florida. Explain. (think of the definitions for weather and climate)

Duck provides fertilizer and pest control.
List at least 1 reasons why a duck living in a rice paddy could be beneficial for the rice plants.
The wolves helped keep the elk and deer populations in check. This in turn allowed the grass and flowers to grow back. The ground was better protected from erosion and the rivers began to flow again. Essentially, balance was restored back to the ecosystem.
Explain what happened when the wolves were reintroduced to Yellowstone.
